Securities and Futures Ordinance

SFO (Securities and Futures Ordinance is a law relating to financial products, securities and futures market in Hong Kong. As per the SFC (Securities and Futures Commission), virtual assets fall under the definition of “securities” as defined in the Securities and Futures Ordinance, these products and related activities fall within the SFC’s ambit. Investors who trade in virtual assets through unregulated trading platforms or invest in virtual asset portfolios which are managed by unregulated portfolio managers do not enjoy the protections afforded under the Securities and Futures Ordinance, such as requirements which ensure safe custody of assets and fair and open markets.
